Faults we fix
These are the faults we see most. Some have a simple fix you can try first, so it’s worth a look before you ring.
- Not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of a wash. Usually a blocked pump or filter, a kinked waste hose or a failed drain pump.Worth checking first: Check the filter behind the small flap at the bottom front of the machine. Put a towel down first, as water will come out.
- Not spinning
- Washing comes out soaking wet. Often a worn motor brush, a faulty drive belt or a drainage problem stopping the spin.Worth checking first: A single heavy item such as a towel or bath mat can unbalance the drum. Add a couple of items and try another spin.
- Leaking
- Water on the floor, usually from a split door seal, a loose or perished hose, or a worn pump.
- Noisy drum
- Rumbling or grinding on the spin usually means worn drum bearings. A loud bang can be a coin or bra wire caught between the drums.
- Door won’t open
- A faulty door lock or handle, or water still left in the drum keeping the door locked for safety.
- Error codes
- Flashing lights or a code on the display. Note it down and tell us when you ring, as it tells us what to look at.

My washing machine won’t drain. What should I check first?
Check the pump filter behind the small flap at the bottom front of the machine, and make sure the waste hose at the back isn’t kinked. If it still won’t drain, ring us.
Is it worth repairing my washing machine?
It depends on the machine, its age and the fault. Ring us with the make, how old it is and what it’s doing, and we’ll tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether a reconditioned replacement is better value.
